The Burner line of irons are built for distance with stronger lofts and longer shafts than a typical iron. The newer TaylorMade Burner 2.0 Irons have even more improvements to help give you more distance without giving up the accuracy that you desperately need.
The TaylorMade Burner 2.0 Irons are the best of both worlds making them the answer to the hybrid/iron sets that higher handicap players use. These are built for those that are able to hit good golf shots, but might need the right equipment to take their game to the next level.
Design
The design of these irons is meant to deliver a faster ball speed and it is designed to make your missed shots better. If you watched the commercial with Dustin Johnson hitting the 3 iron, then you might have noticed at the bottom there is a caption that states he does not play these specific irons in the tournaments he enters.
Improvements
New Burner 2.0 improved the weight distribution in each iron in order to improve the ball flight across the board though they maintained the same direction.
Another key component to the improvements found in the Burner 2.0 is variable face thickness throughout the set. The concept is pretty simple - a thinner face is going to produce more of a rebound or trampoline effect (CoR), which in turn produces longer distances, which happens to be exactly what people want in a long iron. The face gets progressively thicker as you move down the set to the scoring irons, where the increased depth is going to provide better feel.
Pros: An improved addition to their Burner line of G I irons. Medium width sole, and with a thinnish top line preferred by many. These irons will suit the needs of the serious golfer as well as the avid weekender. The shorter heel to toe length frames the ball well, while offering the appearance of a players iron at address. The sole, while not overly wide, skims through the turf with ease as would a much wider sole.
Cons: These irons with the KBS tours do tend to launch the ball a bit higher. Some have reported a lack of consistency with regards to distances with each iron but I have not found that to be true. While not overly large in size, they are G I irons. Some have voiced their opposition to the cavity and it's busy look, although I don't mind it at all.
In one word,Burner 2.0 delivers distance. The face is thinner. The toplines are progressive. The shafts are specifically designed for each head. Every iron has been reinvented. But all you really need to know is they're long.
